And if you intend to pull out that long white plastic piece inside the shifter handle that the wires are attached to, save yourself some grief and pull the O/D button and button socket out of the handle BEFORE you pull the white plastic piece out (and keep an eye out for the small curved metal piece that will fall out when you remove the button). That way, you won't bend the contacts on the button. And don't pull it by the wires. I used a bent wire hanger with a small enough hook at the end to reach in and pull the piece out.

Before you go ripping the dashboard apart, I would put the shift knob
off and check the connection to the button.

When I originally got my 93 atx, the O/D light didn't work either, but
with advice from this list... I pulled the knob and the wires were
just sheared. Fixed the wires and I have O/D light again =)

All you have to do is look for a small metal thing that looks like a big
staple going into the shifter stalk. Remove that with a pair of needle
nose pliers and CAREFULLY lift the shifter knob and stalk off the metal
core. By the time you get halfway doing that, you'll see the wire =)

Good luck!
