if it is a rod bearing ... and begining to tap / knock ... your right , u want TO make sure that u resolve the problem now.

What u can do to better diagnois the problem is to remove a plug wire, one cylinder at a time. And use your throttle to make the noise appear. If it is a rod bearing going, than the noise will change when u pick the right cylinder .
