It may be the cam position sensor. Not too expensive about $40, don't have
to be Ford OEM, and is a half hour job. Plug wires, plugs, and oil in the
plug wells can also cause eratic misfire.

Please include more info when asking for suggestions -  PCM fault codes,
mileage, maintenance history. If your car has 20 k miles I would consider
this to be premature and unreliable, but greater than 100 k miles - what do
you expect? The car, after all, is 13 years old.
