[Shotimes] SHO'S and snow

4 good snow tires all the way around. Last winter was the first year I had
ever put 4 reall snow tires on any car that I have owned. I put a set of
Michelin Artic Alpins on the car. (got them used w/5k for $200 w/rims that
didn't fit) I was shocked to find out how well the car handled in snow and
ice. It felt like I was riding on velcro. 45mph 4 lane primary road, 11:30pm
with 3 inches of snow sticking on the road, I went on my out to expriment in
a parking lot. I could make the car slide sideways if I force it on the
road, but as soon as I gave a little correction steer the car would snap
back to tracking straight down the road. One thing that I think made a huge
difference in the way it drove. Welded on Full Length Subframe Connectors. I
think they tighten up the body so that in snowy situations the rear of the
car is forced to comply with the front a little faster. Especially with the
mini velcro tires.

Pick up a set of 4 good snows and you'll have no problems with a SHO in the
winter, cept for salt and rust. The Michelin Artic Alpins are designed to be
a longer lasting snow tire, as I got them with 5k on them, drove them for
17k in winter (highway to and from work) and then drove them down to FL in
the early spring cause I didn't have summer tires yet. I'll still get 2 more
seasons out of them as they have loads of tread left. I would think that any
normal person that pulls them off when snow season is over could get 4-5
seasons outta them before they are worn down. Then they make good highway
tires till they are shot.

I'm basing this all on the snow we get up here in Albany, NY, which when it
snows it seems to really snow, but most times we don't get much. But I make
frequent trips into the mountains to go back home, and some of those roads
never see clean pavement till spring. :-)
