[Shotimes] Wierd Steering problem

Steering like that sounds like front suspension part time.
If it is as bad as you describe, park the car until you find it, you
don't want to risk it snapping while you are driving.
Jack up the front end and grab the tire with both hands as other
suggested. Basically wheel should not move at all in any direction
except rotation. You will feel a click or clunk if you have any
suspension part worn with metal to metal contact. Typical SHO parts to
wear are inner & outer tie rods ends, lower ball joints, wheel bearings
or front strut rod bushings. You may need a second person to grab each
individual part, like the ball joint, as you shake the wheel, to make
sure you pinppoint the problem. When you have your fingers on both sides
of the bad part, like the outer tie rod end, you can literally feel the
1/16-1/8 (maybe even 1/4) in movement between your fingers.
