For those not wanting to go to the drags in Michigan, there
is an alternative. Not trying to draw people away from the
Lapier drags, sounds like a super event, just too many miles
for me.
There is a two day autocross in Rantoul, IL Saturday and
Sunday this weekend (Oct 25-26). SCCA rules.
Rantoul is about 125 miles SSW of Chicago on I-57. It is
about 200 miles NNE of St. Louis on the same highway, about
135 miles from Indy taking I-74 to I-57, and about 180 miles
from the Quad Cities (Moline, IL; Davenport, IA).
RAIN or SHINE.
I am going as is my son Ken and grandson Ethan.
John Stout will be there.
Not sure of any others, but if you want to join us, we will
be there Saturday (probably not Sunday) about 9:30am. Runs
start about noon.
It is at the aviation center just west of I-57. Take the
Route 136 exit East, and look for the small signs (like
political signs) with the orange pylon on them to guide you
to the aviation center (former AF base). There is a very
good aviation museum on the grounds with lots of huge WWII
and other airplanes.
Events are run on former Air Force runways, so the courses
are usually long and fairly narrow with lots of slalom time.
Chances are we will stop someplace for dinner after the
racing stops about 5pm.
