I find this all amusing in a scary sort of way.  The 
original beany baby site said that there was no 
authentication of any sort.  That should have been a big 
caution flag.

I think the guy knew exactly what he was doing, and planned 
on the greed of collectors to pay more than the items were 
worth.  Happens all the time.  He put plenty of disclaimers 
and worded the thing to play into the greed of the collectors.

I would think e-bay would have more control, but without 
being an attorney myself, I don't think the buyer has a case.
