If you can get a new compressor and the other things for less than the
cost of a parts store rebuild, that's what I'd do. There's a good
chance that the Ford one is also a rebuild, but it might be built a
little better than the others.

Subject: [Shotimes] A/C Compressor options?
Figured this question deserved it's own subject line.
I'm looking, and looking for replacement compressors. Rebuilds from AZ,
NAPA, etc. New ones from FPN, local stealer, etc. I can't choose.
Is there a way to figure out WHO does the rebuilds for these different
suppliers? I'm having a hard time getting straight answers from anyone.
I've heard stories regarding a couple of rebuilders to avoid at all
costs
(thanks to those who've given me the heads-up).
Anybody have good/bad luck with any and would like to share their
opinions?
I'm all ears.
The NAPA replacement with clutch is $400.
The AZ is out of stock, but back when it showed up it was around $230.
New parts (I think?) from FPN are: $225 compressor, $45 clutch pulley,
$45
clutch coil, $27 clutch hub = $342.
Oh, and NAPA indicates that the warranty on the compressor is only valid
if
a new accumulator/hose is installed, part costs $139. This almost makes
it
sound absolutely necessary. Opinions?
Thanks for any more feedback you guys can provide.

P.S. PFish, would you really consider $2500 for your SHO?
