Mark, you are one of the unique SHO owners in this regard in that you are
looking for all weight reductions where they can be found. To spend the $$$
to save the weight on a heavy car, then buy heavy tires negates the effort.
Many of us SHO owners could do better by taking 30+ pounds off our bodies!!
If I messed up my hood, I would consider a cowl hood primarily for the
looks, and the weight savings would be a secondary concern. I think that
most folks would do better for a seat-of-the-pants feel by getting lighter
wheels & tires. I saw this on the '89. I ran stock tires on the lace wheels
in winter, then had heavier 16x7 chrome wheels with heavier tires in the
summer. Although I didn't like the look, the car immediately felt quicker
when I put the lace wheels back on (but you don't particularly notice the
power loss going back to the heavy wheels).

Hey 30 lbs on the nose is 30 lbs off the nose :)

Or do both :)
I'm looking at a 16x8" combo for the track with 245/45 hoosier race rubber,
around 35-36 lbs. pretty light for 8" wheels and 245 race rubber (40 lbs
lighter than what I got now)
