[Shotimes] Welded Spider Gear?

Don't know if you saw Monster Garage the other day, but they turned a cherry
El Camino SS into a Figure-8 racer. They welded the diff on that car. When
Jesse tried it out in the parking lot, there was a lot of tire smoke of
every turn!!

It also appears that the quickest way around a tight Figure-8 track is a
sliding turn, so the locked diff is fine.

IMHO, RWD race cars can probably get away with it, as dragging/spinning the
inside wheel is probably no BFD. With FWD, though, a spinning inside wheel
also has an effect on steering. It would probably also be a real bear to
wrestle around a corner!

This reminds me. A buddy of mine used to race Datsuns
and got better performance by welding the spider gear
for a poor mans posi.

Does that work for FWD? Anyone tried it on a track
car? Kind of a poor-man's Quaffie
