I had the same thing happen on my car. One day I went out side and my dad
said, "whats all that red stuff under the car," and of course it was tranny
fluid. I pushed the axle back in (it moved without any real effort on my
part) but later in the day it was leaking again. When I brought the car to a
shop to get the axle replaced the one that was in there was missing the
clip. The shop who installed the clipless axle, which had a clip when I gave
it to them, probably took the clip off (I doubt it fell off in the trans.) I
brought it to a mechanic the first time because when I tried to install it I
was unable to get the axle in all the way cause of the clip. So long story
short Im guessing the new axle has the clip on it cause I cant move the axle
back and forth at all. Not real sure where you can get thoes clips from
though besides getting a new axle. I got reman axles that have a 5 year
warantee on them and it has definitely paid off since Ive reaplaced each
side at least once. One replacement being just because of the missing clip.
