[Shotimes] Axle not fully seated in tranny

It's interesting you say that. I just had the right-side axle replaced.
Prior to that, I did have leaky seals that were replaced. This stopped
the leak.
But last Sunday I had the axle replaced and when I got home, there was a
small puddle under my car. I checked it out and traced it to the area the
link shaft inserts into the tranny. I also noticed a 1/4" gap between the
link shaft plastic washer and the tranny case. With respect to the link
shaft itself, there is a special hardware retention mechanism for the
support bearing that is bolted to the motor. This would be a failsafe for
keeping the linkshaft from backing out of the tranny.
After talking to DonD last night about my situation, he convinced me that
the seal is more the key to prevent leaks, but I still don't like the idea
of a missing circlip that would provide additional locking mechanism.

About the fact you don't have a leak, you may be low on transmission
fluid. If that were the case, and you topped off the fluid, and your
seals aren't good, you will see a leak.
