Don,

For a salt whore:

Easiest is to use a hacksaw  (BTDT).  The remove the connector with
vicegrips after the evaporator is out  of the car...

The other way is to spray the connection liberally with PB Blaster to try to
break through the corrosion, then combine twisting with pulling to acutally
separate the connection.  This includes trying to hold the springlock
release tool in the connector.  You will also need to loosen whatever it
takes to allow for the twisting at the connection.  This means loosening
EVERYTHING!.  A second pair of small but very stong hands will also help.

The key is the twisting movement while trying to pull it apart.
