They don't do that.  The 3x2 coil pack fires two cylinders at a time.  One
cylinder is on the compression stroke, the other is on the exhaust stroke.
It's called wasted spark.  The three pairs of coils (for a V6) is the in
between step from one coil for all to individual coils for each cylinder
(COP).
