The proper fix is a new brake booster. Relatively cheap part (I paid $150
for a new Ford unit 6 years ago) but expensive labor.
The cheapo fix is to use a throttle return spring from a carburetor. Attach
it between the brake pedal lever and somplace under the dash to act as a
helper spring.
