The tube is not original....it's the first thing that was changed and charged to me
after the 100k warranty ran out...mileage was about 150k. Cost me 550 bucks at the
dealer. I heard exhaust popping through it one morning when I first started it up.
I climbed on top of the idling engine and started sniffing around the back side of
it. At that time I didn't know anything about how to service it yet. I could see
that the throttle, cruise, and speedo cable housiings were starting to be scorched.
I drove it (very gingerly) to the dealer right away.
This was one of those times I'm talking about when I say 'listen to the engine',
because it told me with the popping that there was a problem.
Added....I didn't hear it from the inside...it had apparently been starting to fail
for 10 or 15k miles before that. But I caught it in time to just scorch the
housings...they are still there, except for the speedo cable...it had started to
wiggle, and was swapped out a few days later.
It isn't making any sound now, and the tube is very stiff and rigid. I'll test the
valve with the engine off as soon as I answer all these posts. I have a feeling I'm
goinig to find the problem today, and fix it as soon as I find that other EGR valve
that is laying around.
