[Shotimes] Intermittent No idle

My '94ATX (which is due for its 100K) has intermittantly not been idling.  I
can
start the engine, but as soon as I take my foot off the gas it dies.  If I
give it gas
I keep the engine running.
Since this is an ATX getting home is painfull, one foot on brake, other on
gas, shifting
between Neutral and Drive.
This first happened on a bitterlly cold night, but it has also happend on nice
warm
days.
Any thoughts on what needs to be done before I tear apart my transmission :)
