Hello Folks,
Sorry to intrude on your list since my question is not about the
SHO. I hope you don't mind, but I have a question that Ford cannot
answer, or don't want to be bothered with.. I purchased a 2000 SE
Wagon equipped with the 24V DOHC Duratec Engine. My Taurus did not
come equipped with the small square 24V/DOHC fender emblem that is
located on the front fenders just in front of the wheels (I know you
know where the emblem is). I notice that some Taurus have the emblem
and some don't. Now I realize that many are probably equipped with the
smaller engine, thus no need for the 24V DOHC emblem, right?
My question is this: Was there any cold hard rule of thumb for when the
emblem was applied? Was there a certain production run of a certain
model year? Were there some Taurus' that were equipped with the Duratec
engine that did not get the emblem? Were all Duratec equipped vehicles
automatically given the emblems? The reason is this: Prior to my
purchase, my vehicle was repaired due to hail damage. I know for a fact
that the hood was replaced. I do not know if there was any damage to
the fenders requiring them to be replaced. If they were replaced, they
could have been replaced with fenders without the emblem. When I
inspect the mounting screws of the front fenders they do not appear to
have been removed and put back, in fact the heads of the screw bolts
appear to be untouched.
So, why should I care you ask? Well, I'm kind of a traditionalist in
that I would like the car in its most original, factory state. I have
subsequently purchased the labels (stick-on) from Ford but only want to
apply them if they belong there in the fist place. Is there any way of
knowing (via the VIN #, etc...) if my vehicle ever came with the
emblems? Yes, I know, the car looks pretty "boss" with the emblems and
I may wind up putting them on after all, but I'd really like to know.
Sorry, one more question. Does anyone have the exact measured location
to place the emblems in position?
Thanks for your time,
Lou, NY
