>George, were you able to determine why your EGR system failed?

Yes....old age.......and sitting for a year, as the icing on the cake.

It passed smog in February, emitting about 50% of the allowable NOx specified. With
that, I figured it would be fine the way it was. But the EGR passages were just
about totally plugged, and after running again after sitting so long, whatever was
loose in there finally got blown into a corner, and that was the end of EGR. That
was when the first CE light started coming on (no EGR sensed), and just by chance,
when I changed the manifold, not paying attention to the PFE sensor, it fell off the
head, and started to melt. By the time I had gone 30 miles, it had burned through
the wires, and that was where it quit. It'd be interesting to see what NOx it has
now, with all new and cleaned EGR parts.

After the fact, it all makes sense.

It looks like the radiator is the next thing to need attention....this one was new
in 1999, at the 155,000 mile point. It is running warmer than normal now....we were
at 88 F today, and it was centered in the gauge, more or less by the M, with the a/c
on and cruising at 75. When we get to 100F, there won't be any reserve capacity,
and I'll need to turn off the a/c, like I did in the desert in 1999. Sitting for a
year with old coolant is not good for radiators (or thermostats).

We can get radiators for 99 bucks here, so it's no big deal. I'll probably get one
for the black car, too.

No problem....it's worth it. I can take that radiator back off at retirement and
put this one back in for the final trip to the museum.
