The level of the cut (#5 of 9 cuts) that is halfway between the beginning and end of
the cuts is the one that works in both the door locks and the ignition. There are 5
different levels available as replacements, from no cut to all the way down to the
backbone of the key. If you can, take your current key to a dealer parts man and
have him tell you what the cut is....then get a lockset and half blank keys that
match that center cut. Cut the rest of the new keys with the new tumbler
assembly....the part that only opens the doors (and will not be cut when you get
it), to match the original keys, and you're set....new key for ignition, but same
cut for the door part.
BTDT ....cost about 35 or 40 bucks (in 1997) for the new ignition set, and a buck a
key to have the other parts cut.
