There is a support bearing that IS now available for the Gen 2-3 ATX that
replaces the axel seal... Picture this.
Remove the brake
Pop the Ball joint
Release the axel from knuckle
Pull the axel out
Pull and discard the rubber shaft seal
Press in a Roller bearing that has its own seal
Now you get no axel movement and less chance in hurting the trans

Kirk:
I am kinda unsure what you mean? The ATX has NO support shaft bearing on
the passenger side? The axle seals will not support a bearing?. They are
simply not designed for anything but a seal? I have 55K miles on the unit
and no problem with the axles.
Now I have done something that has NEVER happened as far as I can tell. I
broke the input shaft of the ATX to the oil pump and the car just calmly
coasted to a stop!! Doug L. and I talked back and forth on the phone as I
ran tests to find the problem. Doug had never had one break and said this
was the one and only he knew of.
