[Shotimes] High Milers.....Stand and be Heard

Keys are not to lug the engine below 1500 rpm a lot, not
only does it hammer the bearings, but oil pressure is low at
that rpm.
Fresh oil, on a regular basis, not OVER reving the engine,
but you don't have to be afraid to get near the redline from
time to time.
Heck some of our most famous 200,000 mile+ cars have been
run to redline almost every shift! (traffic allowing).
Just drive it with some sanity, and try to avoid huge rpm
changes on downshifts. Unless you are just happy to buy
clutches and practice heel and toe, let the brakes stop the
car, and the engine make it go! If wanting good
acceleration, like interstate on-ramps, just start with the
rpm's above 2000 and you should be fine, dropping down a
gear so you are in the 3000 rpm range is just about right
for max acceleration. Don't go beyond the redline, since
the stock engine doesn't make any real HP or torque by then
anyway. Shifting by 6200 is about right for most instances.
I like synthetic oil because it offers better protection to
bearings in both cold and heat. Also it offers a bit more
protection if you forget to change oil for a few extra
thousand miles! I like Amsoil, but Mobil 1 is good too, as
are other major brands. Stay away from unknown stuff and do
NOT use stand alone additives. The oil has everything you
need if it is good.
For older engines, that leak a little, Valvoline MaxLife
really does work, and now they make a synthetic version.
But unless you are dripping some or burning some, you don't
need it. Just because an engine hits 75,000 miles (or
whatever their commercials say) you don't need to change to
"old car" oil! Actually it is better if you put that off
till it really needs it.
Also, change your antifreeze, brake fluid, tranny fluid(atx
or mtx) and power steering fluid every two years at least!
Cheap maintenance to help you car live a long life.
