[Shotimes] I hope my bearings are right!

Mike, Only a minority of SHO owners are actually here. I would guess a
lot of the others that don't follow this list have never owned a car for
so long let alone know what a failing rod bearing sounds like. I had been
away from here for about 3 years. During that time I had all the symptoms
you described. Had I known that the issue was a rod bearing, I would have
stopped driving the car. I'll admit that I was in denial that the motor
could actually have such a severe problem. I know some other much more
competent people than me have gone through this too.
At the time I was still following the list I certainly remember a lot of
discussion of getting the 60K service done, and trying to find people
competent to do the job. Rod bearings were barely ever spoken about and
an anomoly as far the Yamaha was concerned. Now it's become as common
place as an oil change it seems. I know I'm exaggerating, but the fact is
that unless you faithfully changed your oil every 3000 miles (I don't fall
into that category) there is a better than a good chance that the motor
needs bearings. The key is for the owner to be able to recognize these
symptoms and know how to react....
