I thought I remembered of someone finding a problem with a main, but man are they a pain to replace. Unless the engine's being removed from the car to undergo a complete rebuild, I wouldn't touch them.
For those looking for the bearings, NAPA sells the Clevite brand (CB-1435P - standard size) for $7.49 per set (IIRC) so to do all 6 cylinders is $45. Add $10 for some new oil pan gaskets and you're all set.
Oh, and one may want to locate a new oil pickup tube gasket. I did one of those crazy parts searches (can't remember the website) until I found a Furd dealer with some. I bought two just in case, since they're about $1 each.

Don't bother with the mains. A PITA to change and they are probably OK. Has
anyone ever heard of a SHO with spun main bearings?

Thanks So much for the stories and info Hi - Milers....Read them all.....
...
.
Now, I need to tap the all-knowledgable ShoTimes Membership for where I
can
get the bearings (main and rod). Autozone has the Mains but don't stock
the
rods even though they have a pn. After all the cool and not so cool
stories
you all have provided me, I feel, it''s in my best interest to pull the pan
while I replace the Y-pipe and at least check the clearances. But I won't
til
I have everything I need to do a bearing replacement. Maybe my '89 will give
me 340K, knowing I have a new bearing set sitting in the trunkl That's the
ticket ! p.s. maybe I did take it to about 8 grand the other day, i
dunno, I
wasn't looking at the tach! Sheeeeeeewie!
Thanks to all you good people for taking the fear out of owning one of
the
best cars I've ever owned !
Robert K. '89 130K, Mighty Whitey. tinted windows, spare bearing set will
soon be in trunk
