Carl and others,
When you refer to a flush and filter change, what are you saying? My
experience is that you get one or the other. If they are quoting $120 for a
filter change and then a flush, that would be pretty good. A filter change
to me means dropping the pan, changing the filter and then adding enough
fluid to make up for what was lost from the pan. A flush, in my mind, is
when they hook the car up to a machine and flush out all of the fluid,
including in the torque converter, etc. but leave the filter. I changed the
filter and replaced the lost fluid about 25K ago and plan on doing a flush
later this year. One mechanic I talked to said it nets about the same
results if you use an old filter but new fluid or change the filter but
don't flush. That could just be an opinion but I do know that if you use
new oil and an old filter, at least on my bike, you get dirty oil real
quick.
