You may be getting a bit off the mark here.

I don't think anybody here said that an electric "motor" 
isn't a "motor" (at least I never said it)

Just addressing the people that say an internal combustion 
engine can't be called a motor too.

As for boat/ship.

My late cousin was a Master Chief on the USS Saratoga, he 
was a plank owner.  Had about a dozen tours of duty.  One 
thing NO navy person will ever do (at least more than once 
in the company of someone from a carrier) is call them a "boat".

My cousin said a boat is something that fits on the deck of 
a "ship".  Basically, an aircraft carrier won't fit on the 
deck of anything!  :)
