This has got to be one of the stupidest arguements ever conducted on the SHOtimes list, and I've seen some stupid ones!
In the dictionary (take your pick, they're all about the same):
mo7tor
1. Something, such as a machine or an engine, that produces or imparts motion.
2. A device that converts any form of energy into mechanical energy, especially an internal-combustion engine or an arrangement of coils and magnets that converts electric current into mechanical power.
3. A motor vehicle, especially an automobile.
So, obviously it's not wrong to call them motors, or engines. Hence this debate being stupid.
What does the fact that you dropped out of engineering school have to do with anything? I'm an S.E. Guess what the "E" stands for? Does that qualify me as being able to properly distinguish an engine from a motor? Nope.
I suppose you had some electrical engineering professor long, long ago that told his aspiring young students that motors were electric and engines were mechanical. I once had a professor (an old fuddy-duddy, actually) try to tell one of my classes that same thing. Wrong.
Oh, and do you have any idea how old the term "motor" is? It's not some slang word that was just made up in the last couple of decades.
Yes, people do have a hard time understanding what you're saying. It could be that your grammar is horrible, you don't use punctuation (although there are a myriad of dashes and dots in seemingly random locations) and the only time you use upper case text is when you're shouting or trying to get some point across. I don't care; you're free to type in whatever manner you want. I (and many others) will just not be able to comprehend and fully appreciate your wisdom.
Take care,

Guess I am getting in late on this flame war but then I dropped out of college...
Was studying to be a double E....
that would be in the field of OMG GUESS WHAT::::;E N G I N E E R I N G
and what was the uh thingy that makes an car go in the old days before electric starter MOTORS that made the car become an automobile....
Besides in any foreign language that I looked up there is no equivalent for the word "motor", but there is for "engine".....I am going to assume the word "motor" has its roots in -----slang-----,,,to differentiate between the hand crank engine and the electric start motor added to the engine...
If you get my meaning.....-----slang is acceptable in the crowd of slangers------, but usually one would SHOw a greater respect for a thing honored by calling it by its proper name.....
Now I know, cause I've been told, that many people here don't understand what I am posting anyway.....so you may ignore the above and I won't feel slighted at all.....
Unlike Kenneth....he is in awe of the SHO and honors the Yamaha 3.0L , 24 V DOHC EFI Engine.
