ISDN is 128K upload and download.  It can be MUCH farthur from the Phone
Company than DSL unless the phone company puts in an extended DSL network
(extended DSLAMs from remote fiber DMARKs - some times referred to as
SLICKs).

Advantages:  It is 100% availible bandwidth 128K v.s. Dial-Up which can only
reach 56K in theory.  It connects immediately v.s. waiting for dial tone on
a POTS line.  Your ISP can do dial-back to you if you want to save money -
Your dual-line phone bill can be as inexpensive as $60.-/month including the
ISP costs with the right ISP.  Think about it as a felixible 128K
Frame-Relay circuit.

Disadvantages:  Most phone companies offer it with 200 hours free time then
charge $.01 each minute for all time above that.

One fellow from Germany I spoke to a few years ago summed up American phone
companies lack of foresight with ISDN (which is extremely popular in
Europe!) is:

On a side note:  Hayes pioneered v.42 compression over ISDN in '96.  IF you
find an ISP who supports it, you can run V.42 and get 4:1 compression - 460K
upload AND download speeds after overhead considerations!

I think your ISDN specs are right, but DSL can vary.  Bellsouth for
instance offers various tiers of service.  Their newest DSL Extreme
service is (up to) 3 Mbps down, 384 Kbps up which compares well with
cable.  A friend of mine just got this and they threw in a static IP 
too.
