We don't use NT on the laptops.  The software is meant for Win 2K.

  As long as the USB mapping goes to classical/legacy COM port settings and
the controller software is mapped to the COM port not IRQ and I/O addresses,
you should be OK.  If the software was intended for Windows '9X, I doubt it
will work since Win2K doesn't allow direct hardware calls.
  Does it work with WinNT?  If so, I'd think Yes.  WinNT supported HIghIRQ COM
ports and non-standard I/O ports with minor tweaking.
