There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a paperclip. If it makes you
feel better, go to Radio Shack and buy some solid wire and and a toggle
switch. In the end you only care about the codes.
BTW, just to show you an example of how euro carmakers are different, my
1991 Alfa 164 has a switch in the steering column you can hold as you turn
the key to the ON position to activate the selftest circuit and then
proceed to count the blinking lights.
