[Shotimes] Burning through oil like crazy

Years ago my dad bought an old worn-out Dodge delivery van and used it for a
hunting vehicle.  It would get 35 miles/quart so they were sure to carry
large amounts of cheap oil with them on trips.  One time on a trip the
timing chain failed so they had to put in a new timing chain setting on the
side of the road.  He claimed that with the new timing chain the oil
consumption went down to 50 miles/quart.  (I doubt if they did any real
scientific testing though.)
