Well...it's not that hard to fix, if you don't consider changing the timing belt
hard. You just need a new crank sprocket and woodruff key. My car kept running
until the sprocket was about 22 degrees retarded. The sprocket sliding back and
forth ate up the crank. You can fill that gap in with LockTite for Gears and
Pulleys, and use a .0015 feeler gauge cut in half as a spacer. Change the oil seal
before you put the sprocket on for the final time. It sounds Rube Goldberg, but
Lowrider now has 80,000 miles on that fix.
You might as well do the whole 60K service and be done with it. I knew I would
never need to go into that engine again once it was together.

Make sure that damper gets torqued to 120 lbs, plus or minus 7. If your car is an
automatic, take out the starter and use a 2x4 about 6 inches long to wedge into the
ring gear. Of course, with the sprocket LockTited to the crank, you can be a little
less concerned about the torquing. But it might as well be right.
