Living in the rust belt sucks.
Last night I finally managed to get the passenger side lower control arm removed. I came to the conclusion that the metal inner collar of the bushing had become one with the bolt going through it, and even if I could get all the bushing material melted away with my torch, I would still be unable to remove the bolt / collar unit from the bracket. So, I went and got a 4" cutoff wheel and went to town. Made two cuts: one through the bushing and the other through the threaded end of bolt sticking out. Got in there with my prybar afterward, and viola it was removed.
On the way home for lunch I went to Westlake and found replacement bolts I think will work beautifully. M14 X 90mm. I wanted grade 8 but could only find grade 5. Will they be strong enough for the job, or should I bend over for the stealership?
Speaking of, over the phone with them I was told the LCA to subframe bolt is still available, but the nut is not. Vice versa for the knuckle to ball joint, nut is available but bolt is discontinued. I don't understand how this could be, seeing how Ford recommends replacing these bolts and nuts every time they're undone. Does anyone have any experience, part numbers or what have you?
