[Shotimes] Cooling system woes

By the way, you didn't install the t-stat backwards, did you? You know,
sometimes products are defective from the manufacturer. Most vendors are
very good about exchanging defective merchandise as this is critical for
customer satisfaction.

DO NOT assume that the engine is running too hot based only on the in-dash
guage.

The proper thermostat is a 195F. That means it starts opening at 195F.

During normal operation of the engine, its temp will be regulated by the
thermostat and the cooling fans and will stay between 205 and 210 under
typical conditions.

The only way to tell for certain if your operating temp is correct or not is
to measure it.

Santa brought me one ot those nifty Sears IR thermometers (about $50). Cool
little tool and it takes ALL the guesswork of of situations like this.

The jiggle valves are not necessary. They do, however, speed the purging of
air bubbles from the cooling system.
