The 94 wagon (3.8L) had a dead battery when we went to pick up the car. It
turned out the battery was nearly new and good, but discharged. At the time
we picked up the car (Wednesday evening the 14th), a jump enabled us to
start it. The next morning, it had some battery life (dash and dome lights
on) but would not start. Hints from Don Mallinson led us toward the starter
motor. Sure enough, replacing the starter/solenoid combo did the trick.
Responding to the post from Don, Bill Murray showed up with a floor jack,
stands, spray lube, and tools. His stuff made it easy to swap the starter
in less than an hour. Without him we would have been screwed. Not only did
Bill come through with exactly what we needed, he was very good company
throughout the process. Bill Murray is a Very Good Guy.
It is good to be a SHO Club member and a SHOtimer. If not for Bill and Don,
we'd have had a very bad time.
