Wow! I thought you'd just say something like "Because I just do!".

I was never really an ST fan. Watched TNG for a year or so; never
watched any of the later series. But I read an interesting article
somewhere not too long ago about what should be done with the ST
franchise. It was written by a fan, btw. His advice was to stop
making the shows for a while. Let people get to really missing it
again. And get some fresh ideas. Enterprise is a good concept,
but from what I've heard, it kind of misses the boat. The trouble
with a franchise is that the owner keeps beating it to within an
inch of it's life, and sucks it dry. All in the name of money.

As far as the "people will think I'm weird" stuff, this is coming from
a comic book collector. I save every one I buy, so I suppose I'm a
collector, but I'm really more of a reader. People like to throw
that stereotype of the "kid who's never kissed a girl" around quite
a bit. But go to a comic convention and see who you find; way more
middle-aged people than teenagers. Has to be. They're the only ones
who have the disposable income to keep buying all that stuff! I
remember when comics were a 50 cents a piece. Now you're average
one costs $2.50! It's not a cheap hobby. And I've got a basement
full of stuff to prove it. Sure you see the "extremers" at the cons
all dressed up in costumes, but that's the entertainment factor.
Besides, there's just as many 22 year olds in little Sailor Moon
outfits as there are overweight middle-agers in Klingon garb!

Anyway, I don't want to ramble too much. It's just that I hear the
"weirdo immature [insert rabid fascination here] geek" argument
way too much. Afterall, most people see us SHO nuts as "morons
spending way too much time with their Taurus". If it makes ya
happy, I say more power to ya!

Always remember: fan is short for fanatic. ; )
