>From the 911 List. Todd Serota runs the Tracquest events (see the link for
Tracquest down in his sig), and from all indications, they are EXCELLENT
track events. FWIW, I would like to do one, as he doesn't require roll bars
in cabriolets (unless certain tracks mandate it). ANY cars are allowed at
Tracquest events, not just Porsches.

Here is a post looking for interest at a Barber Motorsports Park near
Birmingham, AL. If anyone is interested, let him know.

Who's In?!

Exciting news, gang! I just tentatively reserved Barber Motorsports Park
for a TracQuest/Rennlist DE event on Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday-Sunday,
November 27-28. Before I commit, though, I need to gauge interest - and
fast. A lot of people from the Southeast have been bugging me to go back to
Road Atlanta (which I can't do due to the greatly increased fees I have to
pay because I'm considered to be a "competitor" of the Panoz Racing School)
or to do an event at Barber. Now's your chance. Here's the relevant info.

First, Barber Motorsports Park, which has only been open for a year or two,
has quickly become one of the "big deal" tracks in the country. With 17
turns in 2.3 miles and various elevation changes, I'm told (I haven't been
there yet) that it's very technical and challenging. I also know that the
surface will be perfect because the owner has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive
Disease) in a big way and has already repaved the entire track 3 times!
Barber is also the new home to the Porsche Driving Experience, which moved
there from Road Atlanta shortly after Barber first opened.

Second, because Barber is such a big deal track, it's VERY hard to get on.
Aside from demand, Barber is very particular about the groups to which it
will rent.

Third, they're no dummies at Barber. They realize what an incredible
facility they have and sadly, charge appropriately. Barber is more
expensive to rent than any other track in the country at which I run events.
Yup - even more expensive than places like Laguna Seca, Infineon, Mid-Ohio,
Watkins Glen and VIR. This means that I'd have to charge more than I charge
for other East Coast events. All East Coast events in 2004 are $550 for
both days or $325 for one day. Preliminarily, I think I'd have to charge
$650 for both days or $375 for one day at Barber. As usual, this is more
than PCA and BMWCCA charge, but as many Rennlisters can tell you, you get a
lot more, making it more than worth it. Still, I need to know if pricing is
an issue. If you would attend but only at a lower price, I need to know
that. However, if too many people tell me that, the event likely won't
happen, so keep that in mind.

I need to hear from potential instructors and participants alike. For those
who don't know, all instructors at East Coast events now run for free even
if they don't refer a paying participant, as has been the case on the West
Coast. However, I always rely on my instructors to help spread the word to
get paying participants to come. I will have to rely even more heavily on
my instructors for this event. I've always lost money every time I've gone
to a new track and I'd sure like to reverse that trend at Barber if I go
forward with the event.

So please let me know if you would attend. Also let me know if you won't
attend, but would if not for some specific issue, like a conflict with
another event that weekend, pricing, etc. Thanks very much. I sure hope
this works, because I REALLY want to do an event at Barber!
