The video they played on the news, you heard them ask for permission from
either a ground controller or a command aircraft for permission to engage
and they were told to "Smoke them".

Never fails that I am the last to see what everyone saw a weeke ago :)
Mike, your points are well taken, but...
On your point one: Remember the video of the Columbia coming down last year
caught by an Apache camera that was "running" on the tarmac? The people's
voices are clear and the helicopter was in audible. I also believe this is
consistent with other Apache video I have seen.
On your point two: They were Iraqis, and I am guessing weren't to incredibly
sure WHICH direction to go.
On your point three: And somebody correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there
normally a command helicopter that sits back a mile or so with a commanding
officer in most Apache "battlefield" operations?
Same site that hosts has an interesting breakdown of the vid

How the Iraqis have the balls to even think of messing with these copters is
beyond me.

This has been going around work here lately. There's been some discussion on
what this actually is.
First my disclaimer: I know nothing about any military things.
Particularly weapons or aircraft. Nor are my comments meant to "devalue" in
any way the military. These are just my observa- tions.
1. You can't hear the helicopter. I would think you could hear it a little
bit in the background. It's almost perfectly quiet in between the voice
transmissions. Except for the gun of course.
2. After the first guy is hit, the other guys don't seem very interested in
finding any cover. It's only the last guy who was hiding under the truck.
3. My first impression was that this is some kind of training thing. The guy
shooting is taking total direction form some "guy in charge".
