You may want to consider taking it to a pro, esp. if it hasn't been touched
in 10 years...

Lots of places offer a $20-30 A/C check, sometimes incl. a pound of R-134.

That way, if something's wrong, they'll tell you and if you just want to add
freon (which is all you could do), they could do that too and you could fix
it later if it got worse.

Ever had it recharged? R-134 is cheap...cosidering what the cost of R-12 is.
Most likely you have the
R-134 system.

Sounds like it just needs to be recharged...
