[Shotimes] O/D Light on ATX

Well--I had this happen previously on my car--BUT that time, the O/D
light wouldn't come on at all and of course, I couldn't drop out of
overdrive--but this time it acts like a gremlin is attacking the button
and engaging it all by itself. I am suspect it might be due to the
power washing this morning and that as Rick suggested, when it dries out
really well, it will go back to normal and "behave!". I am hopeful at
least. The good news is, that the concensus seems to think it is
electrical and NOT the transmission, thank God!

Probably broken O/D wires in the shifter stalk. They short out.

Subject: [Shotimes] O/D Light on ATX

Hi all you SHO brainiacs out there. I need your help--and quickly if
possible as I'm leaving first thing in the AM for the convention.

Today my car started doing something really weird. First the O/D light
for the transmission was on when I started my car and wouldn't go off
when I pushed the O/D button on the shift knob but then it finally went
off after re-starting my car after a few more stops. Now it will just
slip into O/D off without my depressing the button. It sometimes goes
off when I do press the button, but sometimes it won't, but it is
dropping out of overdrive all by itself at times. When the O/D light is
on--it won't go up into overdrive either.

I don't know if this problem would throw codes and if so which ones??
I'm wondering if it is electrical as I just had my undercarriage power
cleaned this AM also and they jacked the car off and sprayed underneat
the car really well in preparation for the car SHOw on Tuesday, so I'm
wondering if this could just be a wet component, but I have no idea
which component might be wet, or if it is an indication that some sensor
is failing on me? I thought I once heard that the VAPS sensor could
affect the transmission, but I can't remember for sure what was said if
it was really said at all.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, as I SURELY don't
have the money for transmission work right now. This is less than a
week after the alternator went out too, so as my "baby" approaches her
10th birthday on August 22nd, she might be starting to nickel and dime
her way along now. I sure hope not!! She's been awesomely reliable up
to this point so I'm hoping she won't start acting her age. She
certainly doesn't look it!

Thanks to all in advance for their thoughtful insights and advice.
