I would hold off on putting 12 volts to it until you know which wire
actually should get 12 volts.

I'll bet you it is the control box on the top of the radiator. Someone on
this list had luck fixing them. They are expensive to buy new.

The fan blade does spin by hand but the fan doesn't come on, with or
without the AC / Defrost. I suppose I will be checking the fuse first,
but I imagine that I will need to replace the motor, But I will check it
by putting 12 volts directly to it first. I didn't have time last night
to look at it, but I will tonight. It's a good thing I drove the wife's
car this morning as traffic was heavy and I had to sit and idle for a
while.

Can you spin the fan blade by hand? Is there a blown fuse in that box
under
the hood near the firewall and left fender?
I had the fan motor sieze up on me, causing the same eymptoms you
mention,
and it blew the fuse. I was able to find a replacement motor at AutoZone
for
around $70. Be sure to take the old motor with you to match it. The
counter
guy was able to find what looked like the same motor (Siemens) but with
a
diffferent connector. I had to splice in the old connector.

BTW: I also called the Ford dealer. The parts guy said that motor wasn't
available alone. I'd have to "upgrade" to the new setup: dual fans and
new
shroud. "Only" $700 or so!!!

Good luck
