Well, being that they're both Mustangs, you expect similar styling cues.
However, put this pic up next to the '05 and you can where the inspiration
came from:

Actually, being that these cars are 30 years apart, they look very similar.
The front takes very, very obvious styling clues from the 74, and both the
cars have the same body panel styling. the sides are higher on the '05 than
on the '74, but the two bodies have the same proportioning. I'd say the '05
is pretty much the same car, only 31 years younger.
