The 8.8 is pretty stout. I know of more than a few 99+ GT's that are running
high 7's/low 8's in the 1/8th mile every weekend that are holding up pretty
good with a stock 8.8. I know of many 8.8's in GT's that have been
"strengthened" running 5's and 6's in the 1/8th.

Either you are just having exceptionally bad luck with 8.8's or the people
that you have putting them in don't know what they are doing.
