Just did this on my '93 last fall. A/C with the 134a still works great.
Check out www.ackits.com (and their forum) for all the answers to your questions. I can't remember for the life of me the oil ratio, but you'll find it if you search the site.
With the fitting adapters you mention, make sure that once installed the front one (low side, I believe) isn't too tall! Once you put the adapter on and the plastic cap, you may have little to no clearance to the underside of the hood!
Good luck. Nice thing is you'll always be able to add the 134a yourself (if a leak develops, for example).
