I was wondering if someone out there might have some advice for me.
I have a 94 MTX I bought knowing it needed a clutch (really needed a
clutch!). So, I had it towed to my transmission guy. I've owned several
regular Tauruses. So, yeah, I have a regular transmission guy ;-). I
bought the factory clutch kit and throwout bearing. These were installed.
Driving the car home, I noticed some rattle-type noises (dare I say
clatter?) seeming to come from the passenger top of the engine when the car
was actually moving when the engine was between 2200 - 3000 rpm. I make
this distinction because there is no noise when the car is not in gear.
Sitting still, the engine can revved to the same rpm with no unusual noise.
Not knowing when the last time the oil was changed, I went ahead and flushed
the engine then changed the oil. The noise is still there under the same
circumstances. Here is what I know about this particular car:
1) 106K miles with an unknown history.
2) the clutch was so far gone that it would not disengage the trans when
depressed.
3) Before the clutch replacement, if the trans was placed in neutral and
the car started there was a banshee like shriek from the car. I figured it
was a bad throwout bearing. Hence the replacement.
I have my theories as to what's going on, but I want someone else's opinion.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
