Hey, COOL!! That's like what I learned to drive on, back in '54 or so. It was an
International Harvester KB-2 Pickup....3 and a granny on the floor....no synchros.
It had a spring loaded pushbutton on the floor next to the gas pedal, and you
started it with your heel. Some Fun!!!
In the early '60s, Ford had a bendix starter like you mention. Our '61 Tbird, and a
'64 that friend had that I took care of had those. When you cranked it the first
time after it had been shut down, it sounded like our cars today...you could hear
the bendix go out and engage the flywheel. If it didn't start the first time, when
you cranked it again, you could tell that the bendix was still out there engaged to
the flywheel....it sounded as though the starter was continually engaged with the
flywheel. The bendix was spun back into the 'rest' position by the more rapidly
spinning flywheel after the engine started.
.....memories!!!
Checking for your weatherstrip this coming Monday.
