Just wanted to pass along my impressions of the el-cheapo code reader (sold by Harbor Freight as well as many other places).
I'm sure there are lots of people that would like a code reader for $40, but aren't sure if this thing is worth a damn. Well, after finally having the opportunity to use it on an OBD-II car with SES light illuminated, I can tell you that it does work as advertised!
My dad's '98 Caravan has been running rough, hesitating with more than 1/4 throttle, etc. Hooked up the scanner on Saturday and got a friendly P0301, indicating a misfire in cylinder #1. Pulled the plug, it was fouled beyond recognition. Replaced all four plugs (yes, it's the 4-banger) and it was good to go.
Also, has anyone dealt with the quick-connect fuel connections on newer cars? The fuel filter for the same van was $30 (AZ, Napa prices) and come to find out it's the little "pop can" filter with three hoses attached! I wasn't crazy about those quick-connect fittings at first, but they're not to shabby. Probably easier in the long run than trying to pull rubber hoses off the "nipples" on our filters.
Anyway, I've rambled enough. Somebody help me with my brake hose problem (previous email).
Later,
