[Shotimes] squeaky SLO steering

Jon,
If it is indeed your rack, I would first try a bottle of Lucas rack sealer / conditioner. Lucas products seem to be some the least snake oil-ish. If the fluid is old I'd flush the system first, then add the Lucas.
On my 92, I had a steering squeak I swore was the rack, but actually ended up being the strut mount bushings / bearings. I replaced them (and added the spacers while I was at it), and viola no more funky noises. From the steering components anyway...
Hope this helps,

My '95 SLO is getting grumpy. In the slightly warmer weather we've been
having lately, the steering rack is screeching (high-pitched
creaking/rubbing sound) when I move the wheel left of center (only seems
to be when moving left, not moving back towards center and not right of
center). I haven't had a chance to really give it a good diagnosis with
a helper, and I don't have much experience with steering issues. Anyone
want to hazard a guess? Could my PS pump be going? Time for a rack
rebuild? Simple lube job? Is there anything I should look for when I
get under it?
Any (educated) guesses welcome.
