[Shotimes] squeaky SLO steering

Chris,

The spacers (or washers) go between the strut mount and the strut tower, moving the bushing away enough to stop the squeaking. I have the spacers and could not get them installed without dropping the whole assembly out, as if I were changing the struts or springs. I tried undoing the nuts and jacking the body off the mount, but all I accomplished with that effort was getting my alignment out of whack, there wasn't enough room to slip the spacer in. There might have been if I'd thought of using washers instead. Hope this helps,

George,

Are you saying that you simply put washers underneath the nuts to lower
the strut mount? Is there any specific spec or size that works well? The
'94 is making a squeeking noise when the steering is moved like the one
described. Out of curiosity, would it be very simple to install these
spacers that Ford sells when the springs are being replaced? The '94 rides
amazingly better since having the front springs replaced (one front one was
fractured) but the steering squeek it has sometimes is still there. I wish
I would have known about this before. For that matter, would doing this
after the fact (using the washers if possible) affect the alignment? The
shop we took it to actually did what appears to be an excellent alignment
(the car does not pull with the wheel centered on the freeway) but I want to
stop the annoying squeak.

Opinions, suggestions, etc are appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Chris
