Gen 2 (well, a 94) can be removed without tools. Pull away the trunk 
liner -- it's just held on by push-on plastic things over some screw 
threads. The tail lamp assembly was held on with plastic wing nuts, 
so they hadn't rusted on (I know you know what "rust" is Carl ;-) 
Each of the bulbs (brake light, blinkers, reverse) are in 
twist-in/twist-off holders.

I'll let you know later if it was a mistake to not add more caulk 
before putting the assembly back together. It's supposed to be a 
common cause of water in the trunk.
